Mountain Hawks travel to Monmouth for Monday night matchup

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Fresh off a 2-1 season-opening win over Manhattan, the Lehigh men's soccer team will hit the road for the first time this season as the Mountain Hawks travel to Monmouth Monday evening. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Monmouth's Hesse Field on The Great Lawn.
First-half goals from senior Ali Famili and junior Jamie Luchini coupled with a strong defensive second half helped Lehigh capture a 2-1 win over Manhattan Friday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex. After going down 1-0 early in the first half, Famili netted a penalty kick to tie the game at one before Luchini scored an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute to give Lehigh a 2-1 lead. Freshman Joe Bogan made five key saves in goal in his first collegiate game. The Mountain Hawks held a 24-16 shot advantage and 8-3 corner kick advantage. Luchini led Lehigh with six shots, four of which were on goal.
Monmouth also opened its season Friday night, as the Hawks rolled to a dominant 5-0 win over UMass Lowell. Senior Dom Sarle and sophomore Dave Nigro each recorded two goals and an assist en route to the victory as the Hawks posted their highest offensive production since a 5-0 win over Long Island in 2006. Bryant Avalos notched Monmouth's fifth goal while sophomore keeper Eric Klenofsky made four saves to secure the shutout.
This will be the first meeting between Lehigh and Monmouth since 1991.
Next up for the Mountain Hawks will be a trip to Stony Brook on Friday at 7 p.m.
