Mountain Hawks open season against Manhattan Friday night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team kicks off the 2014 season Friday night against Manhattan at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. A live broadcast of the season-opener will be available for free on the Patriot League Network.
The Mountain Hawks have their sights set on returning to the Patriot League Tournament in 2014. Senior captain Ciaran Nugent returns between the pipes for the Mountain Hawks after missing the 2013 season due to injury. The 2011 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year has tallied a 0.85 GAA and 128 saves throughout his career as a Mountain Hawk.
Also leading the Mountain Hawks will be senior captain Ali Famili, a 2012 first team All-Patriot League selection and three-year starter, who will hold down the Lehigh midfield. The Mountain Hawks also return junior Austin Decker to the front line. Junior Jamie Luchini was Lehigh's top goal scorer a season ago.
Lehigh finished the 2013 season with a 2-14-1 overall record and 1-8 conference mark.
The Jaspers return their top two goal scorers from last year's 5-10-3 season in sophomore Dan Laguna Kennedy (seven goals) and senior Eugene Heerschap (four goals). Manhattan is captained by senior Tommy Amos, a 2013 second team All-MAAC selection, and junior Alex Schackley. Sophomore Alex Coates McDowall started all 18 games for Manhattan as a freshman a season ago, holding a .714 save percentage while posting four clean sheets.
Following Friday's season-opener, the Mountain Hawks will travel to Monmouth for a Labor Day contest Monday at 7 p.m.
