BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh baseball team heads to Port Charlotte, Fla. this weekend to begin a six-day spring break trip at the Snowbird Classic. The Mountain Hawks will play six games during the trip and face Chicago State, Western Michigan, St. Bonaventure, Maine and Presbyterian.  Lehigh kicks off the action Saturday at 11 a.m. against Chicago State before facing Western Michigan at 3 p.m.

Saturday's opener against Chicago State will be Lehigh's fourth game of the season, as the Mountain Hawks enter the trip with a 1-2 record. Lehigh spent its first weekend of action in Davidson, N.C., before having Wednesday's scheduled contest against Seton Hall postponed due to inclement weather. Lehigh suffered a 12-inning loss to Mount St. Mary's in the season-opener last Friday before splitting a pair of games with Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday and Sunday.

Junior Connor Faust led the Mountain Hawks offensively on the season-opening weekend, going 5-for-11 at the plate, including 2-for-3 with a run and pair of RBI in a 4-2 win over Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday.  Junior John Elson and sophomore Mike Garzillo each drove in a team-leading three runs last weekend, while senior Tyler Brong smacked a home run on his first at-bat of the season.

Junior right-handed pitcher Nick Stephens was credited with last weekend's win after allowing just one run on six hits, while fanning seven, in five innings of work against Fairleigh Dickinson. The Mountain Hawk bullpen stepped up in the win as well, with strong performances from junior Jordan Smith, freshman David Young and senior Joey McNamara.

Saturday's game will be Chicago State's final contest of the Snowbird Classic, as the Cougars claimed a pair of wins on Thursday over St. Bonaventure and Nebraska-Omaha and play another game against Nebraska-Omaha Friday.  The Cougars hold a 3-5 record prior to Friday's game. Jordan Stroschein leads the team with a .353 batting average, while Evan Davis has tallied a team-leading eight RBI. Three pitchers have claimed wins for the Cougars, led by Jerry Silva out of the bullpen who holds a 0.00 ERA after allowing no hits and no runs in 4.2 innings of work.

Western Michigan starts its trip to the Snowbird Classic with a Friday game against St. Bonaventure, but heads into the trip with a 1-5 record. The Broncos are 1-5 heading into Friday's game, but are coming off a big 4-2 upset win over No. 7 Louisville on Sunday. The Broncos top hitter, Andrew Sohn, went 3-for-4 against Louisville and stole his fifth base of the season. Freshman pitcher Keegan Akin struck out four batters and only gave up two runs in four innings against the Cardinals in his first collegiate start. The team has 40 hits this season and an overall .203 batting average.

After a break in action on Sunday, Lehigh will resume with a pair of contests on Monday. The Mountain Hawks face St. Bonaventure at 10:30 a.m. and Western Michigan at 2:30 p.m.

The Mountain Hawks will have Sunday off before they play Saint Bonaventure and a second game against Western Michigan on Monday.

The Bonnies carry an 0-5 record into Friday, but will face Western Michigan, Central Michigan and Northeastern before taking on the Mountain Hawks Monday. Joel Rosencrance leads St. Bonaventure with a .409 batting average, while Dylan Dunn has batted in a team-leading six RBI. Rosencrance has started two games on the mound for the Bonnies, pitching 11.2 innings with a 3.86 ERA.

After playing its second game against Western Michigan Monday, Lehigh will have another day off before finishing its week in Florida with games against Maine and Presbyterian on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

Heading into Friday, Maine holds a 1-5 record but have played a pair of strong programs in Clemson and Miami (Fla.). The Black Bears will play four games before meeting with the Mountain Hawks Wednesday at 12 p.m. T. Black leads Maine at the plate with a .435 batting average and team-leading ten hits. Troy Black, Brian Doran and Kyle Silva have each batted in three runs. Relief pitcher Jacob Gosselin-Deschesnes holds a 1.29 ERA in seven innings of work.  Maine's starting pitchers have all struggled from the mound as its best starter, Scott Heath, has a 6.75 ERA.

The Mountain Hawks will wrap up competition at the Snowbird Classic Thursday at 11 a.m. against Presbyterian. The Blue Hose currently hold a 4-3-1 record, but will head to Auburn for a three-game set and face Northeastern before taking on the Mountain Hawks. Six Presbyterian players have batting averages above .260 and the team has outscored its opponents 44-33. Brad Zebedis leads the Blue Hose with seven RBI, one homerun and 11 hits. The team also has a strong core of pitchers, including Beau Dees who holds a 1.35 ERA after giving up just three runs in 13.1 innings pitched.

Following the spring break trip, Lehigh is scheduled to make its home debut March 8-9 in a three-game weekend set against Coppin State on the Goodman Campus Baseball Field.
