
Lehigh closes out the first half of league play at Bucknell Wednesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team will look to get back on track and pick up a crucial road win on Wednesday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Bucknell for a 7 p.m. contest. Lehigh aims to snap its six-game road skid while seeking its seventh straight win in Sojka Pavilion. The game will be broadcast for free on the Patriot League Network and fans can listen live on 91.3 WLVR in the Lehigh Valley or wlvr.org.

The Lehigh offense struggled in its most recent contest at rival Lafayette on Saturday, putting up a season-low 51 points that led to a 73-51 loss. Lehigh finished the game shooting just 27.3 percent (18-for-66) from the field, compared to Lafayette's 35.3 percentage (24-for-68). Neither team shot the three well, with Lehigh's 21.7 percentage (5-for-23) slightly lower than Lafayette's 23.1 percentage (3-for-13). The Leopards shot 22-for-24 from the free throw line, including a perfect 14-for-14 in the first half.

Senior Alexandra Yantzi recorded a career-high seven blocks in the loss, while also adding six points and four rebounds. Junior Katie O'Reilly chipped in a team-leading 11 points, while sophomore Kerry Kinek added ten.

The Mountain Hawks average a league-leading 72.2 points per game, but have also given up an average of 72.9 points per contest, which ranks last in the league. Kinek ranks third in the league in scoring (16.4), sixth in rebounding (6.9) and third in steals (1.6).

The fourth-placed Bison squad carries a 5-3 league mark and 10-8 overall record into Wednesday's meeting. Bucknell had won two straight before dropping its most recent contest at Boston University, 86-58, on Saturday.

Senior Shelby Romine put up a team-high 22 points and the Bison shot an impressive 53.8 percent from three-point range, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Terriers' 53.4 percent (31-of-58) shooting performance.

The Bison have found themselves in quite a few close games this season, coming out on top against Lafayette (75-72) and Army (56-55). Despite two buzzer-beating shots to force extra playing time, Bucknell fell in double overtime to Navy, 94-92.

Junior Audrey Dotson leads the team with 17.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Romine follows with 14.3 points per game and a team-leading 80 assists.

The Bison own the best free throw percentage in the league (74.2, led by Dotson who averages 85.0 percent from the charity stripe.

Kinek grabbed a school and Patriot League record 22 rebounds, while adding in a team-high 11 points, in the win. Fifteen of Kinek's rebounds came in the first half as the Mountain Hawks held the Bison to just eight points in the first stanza. O'Reilly scored 10 points, eight coming in the second half, while Elizabeth Sharlow tapped in nine points and seven rebounds.

Following Wednesday's contest, the Mountain Hawks will return home to face Boston University on Saturday in Lehigh's Play 4Kay game. $1 per fan in attendance will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund by Lehigh Gas and fans who wear pink will receive free admission. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. in Stabler Arena.
