Lehigh opens season against Bryant Friday night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team will open the 2013 season Friday night when Bryant travels to the Ulrich Sports Complex for a 7 p.m. contest. This will be the first ever meeting between the schools.

The Mountain Hawks will look to rebound after narrowly missing the Patriot League Tournament in 2012. The season ended with a 2-2 double overtime thriller with Army, which eliminated the Mountain Hawks from tournament contention.

Lehigh will be led by senior captains James Meyerkord and Ben Wysocki. The two have combined to play in 98 games over their careers while starting in 57. The Mountain Hawks also return 2012 first team All-Patriot League defender Ali Famili. The junior played 90+ minutes in each of his 16 appearances last season.

The Mountain Hawks looks to reclaim their success in home openers after dropping last year's first contest to Hofstra, 2-0. Prior to that loss, Lehigh hadn't dropped a home opener since September 1, 2007.

The match will serve as Bryant's season opener as well. The Bulldogs went 6-8-2 in 2012, finished seventh in the Northeast Conference and narrowly missed qualifying for the NEC Tournament. The squad is fairly young and features five seniors, six juniors, nine sophomores, and nine freshmen.
