BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team looks to get back on the winning track Tuesday as the Mountain Hawks travel to rival Lafayette for their final road match of the regular season. The Mountain Hawks will be looking to bounce back from a tough 5-2 loss to Colgate on Sunday while also looking to strengthen their positioning for the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.
Also at stake on Tuesday is Lehigh's 12 match winning streak over the Leopards.
The Mountain Hawks enter the rivalry matchup at 4-12 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League. Lehigh has won two of its last four matches overall, with victories over Holy Cross on March 23 and Monmouth on April 2.
Junior Jenai Bilimoria and sophomore Abby Farrell led Lehigh in the loss to Colgate, winning matches at the top two singles flights and teaming up for a win at No. 1 doubles. Lehigh came close to capturing the doubles point, but the Mountain Hawks' No. 2 team of junior Taylor Hampshire and freshman Ali Kaminetsky fell 7-5 in a tiebreak.
Bilimoria and Farrell own a respectable 8-8 mark at the top doubles flight for Lehigh, while Hampshire and Kaminetsky have held their own since coming together at the No. 2 flight last month.
Farrell leads Lehigh with six singles wins out of the No. 2 flight with Bilimoria right behind with five. Kaminetsky, sophomore Emily Bruch and junior Jill Sloand all own four singles wins. Hampshire recently returned to singles action at the No. 3 flight, meaning Kaminetsky will likely play No. 4 and Bruch at No. 5. Sloand, sophomore Molly Brooks and freshman Marian Prim are all in the mix to play No. 6 singles.
Lafayette is 4-5 on the spring season and the Leopards will face Saint Joseph's Monday before Lehigh visits on Tuesday. The Leopards are 0-2 in the Patriot League with losses to Colgate and Army.
Lehigh has won the last 12 meetings in the series including a 7-0 shutout last year on the Ulrich Varsity Courts. The Mountain Hawks own a 16-14 edge across all sports for the 2012-13 school year after going 5-2 this weekend with Lehigh getting wins from men's tennis, men's outdoor track and field and softball (three).
Tuesday's match begins at 3 p.m. from Lafayette's Sullivan Tennis Courts. Following the Lafayette match, Lehigh will be home for its final three regular season matches, beginning Sunday when Navy visits the Ulrich Varsity Courts.
