BETHLEHEM, Pa. – As the Lehigh men's golf team prepares to return to the links this weekend at the Lafayette Invitational, the Mountain Hawks were picked to finish third at the Patriot League Championship in the poll announced Friday. The Mountain Hawks will host the Patriot League Championship April 27-28 on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.
Lehigh garnered 48 points in the poll, which is voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Defending champion Navy edged Army 66-65 for the top spot in the poll, but the Black Knights held an 8-6 edge in first-place votes. The Mountain Hawks finished third at last year's championship at Bucknell, with three individuals earning second team All-Patriot League honors.
Beginning Sunday, Lehigh will compete at Northampton Country Club, a par-72, 6,548-yard layout that was established in 1899. The Mountain Hawks are one of four Patriot League schools in the 18-team field, joining Army, Bucknell and the host Leopards.
Last year, Lehigh finished sixth out of 15 teams in the field, with junior Andrew Arnold finishing third, playing as an individual. Junior Alex DiClemente also played well, tying for 12th place overall.
The Mountain Hawks will compete at the Navy Invitational next week, before shifting focus to the league championship.
The Lafayette Invitational begins Sunday with a shotgun start, beginning at 1 p.m., while the second and final round will begin at 9 a.m. Monday.
