"We try to provide a top level of competition in each Paul Short Run and this one is no different," said head coach Debbie Utesch. "It's great for our runners to be able to compete against national level competition on their home course."
The Lehigh women finished in 30th place out of last year's 40 teams and return three of the seven scoring runners from last year. Senior Hannah Pierce is the top returning runner for the Mountain Hawks, finishing 162nd out of 360 teams with a time of 22:47 at last year's race. Sophomore Jennifer Markham will also return for the Mountain Hawks, after placing 184th (23:00) in last year's Paul Short Run. Other Lehigh runners to watch out for include seniors Rosie Roessel, Katherine Howley and Marissa Galante. Freshman Anne Birkenmaier has also impressed in her first two collegiate races, placing sixth in the Lehigh Invitational and eighth at the Lehigh-Lafayette dual.
"This race provides a great opportunity for our runners to see what it takes to compete with high caliber competition," said Utesch. "It also gives our newcomers a chance to challenge themselves and really see what it is like to race against some of the nation's best teams."
The women's team will enter the 2013 Paul Short Run looking to build upon the success of their early season meets. The Mountain Hawks placed first in the 2013 Lehigh Invitational and claimed a 25-34 win over Lafayette in the annual dual meet with the Leopards.
