BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a record-breaking season, the Lehigh men's lacrosse team is ranked #9 in the final Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. The Mountain Hawks finished the season with a 14-3 record, falling to National Finalist Maryland, 10-9, in an NCAA First Round Game. Seventh-seeded Lehigh shattered a school record for wins while advancing to its first-ever NCAA Tournament.
National Champion Loyola came in first in the entire poll, followed by Maryland, Notre Dame, Duke, Virginia, Denver, Johns Hopkins and Colgate. UMass rounds out the top 10.
The Mountain Hawks defeated four teams ranked in the final top-20 poll of 2012: Colgate (8), North Carolina (11), Yale (12) and Penn State (15). Lehigh owned a school-record nine-game winning streak mid-season and defeated Colgate, 16-14, to win the school's first Patriot League Tournament Title.
Owning the nation's second best defense (in fewest goals allowed), the Mountain Hawks had three All-America honorees, their first All-Americans since 1994. Leading the way was sophomore defenseman Ty Souders, who was named to the third team (along with senior Roman Lao-Gosney) while freshman goalie Matt Poillon earned honorable mention laurels.
Lehigh returns much of its roster in 2013, led by top two scorers David DiMaria and Dante Fantoni, along with its entire close defense, and goalie.
