Lehigh Tops Navy 19-7 in Key Patriot League Contest

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh defeated Navy 19-7 on Saturday afternoon, scoring the first six goals, controlling the game from start to finsh. With the win, the Mountain Hawks improved to 3-4 in Patriot League play and can clinch a spot in the Patriot League tournament with a victory next Friday night at Lafayette.
Lehigh improved to 6-7 overall and scored a season high 19 goals, its most in a game since the 2023 season.
With the loss, Navy slides to 3-4 in league play and 7-6 overall on the season.
Lehigh's offense was sharp and balanced, with nine players scoring and 10 adding assists. Finn Morgan and Luke Winkler paced the attack with four goals each. Morgan also added three assists to set a career high, marking the 10th time this season the first-year has recorded a hat trick, while Winkler's four goals marked a season high.
Jack Archer and Chris Rathwell each added two goals for the Mountain Hawks, while Luke Breslin chipped in with three goals of his own.
On the defensive end, senior Richard Checo tied a season high with five caused turnovers. Noah Ramirez and Harrison Vassel each added two caused turnovers, while Vassel also collected five ground balls.
As a team, the Mountain Hawks went 12-for-29 at the faceoff X, with Connor Riley winning 10 of those draws while also collecting five ground balls, tying Harrison Vassel for the team high. In net, Kasey Heath was solid once again, allowing just six goals while making 10 saves.
Lehigh came out of the gate on fire, scoring four goals in the first three minutes of action. Riley won the opening faceoff and sparked the offense immediately, as Breslin followed with the next three goals for the Mountain Hawks to complete a hat trick in under three minutes of game action and give Lehigh an early 4-0 lead. Rathwell, Morgan, and Peter Debusschere added late first-quarter goals before Navy found the back of the net, as Lehigh took a 7-1 lead after the first quarter.
The Mountain Hawks scored four more times in the second quarter to take an 11-1 lead at halftime. Jack Archer, Winkler, Curren Johnson, and Morgan each found the back of the net in the frame, while the Lehigh defense held Navy scoreless in the period.
In the third quarter, Navy found its footing with five goals in the period, while Lehigh answered with two to take a 13-6 lead after three quarters. Archer and Winkler accounted for the Mountain Hawks' third-quarter goals.
Winkler and Morgan each scored twice more in the fourth, accounting for four of Lehigh's six goals in the period, helping the Mountain Hawks cruise to a 19-7 home victory.
