Lehigh Defeats Lafayette 14-12, Clinches Patriot League Tournament Berth

EASTON, Pa. - Lehigh defeated Lafayette 14-12 Friday evening. With the win, the Mountain Hawks clinched the No. 6 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will face No. 3 seed Boston University at 6 p.m. in Boston Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
The now lead the all-time series 76-22-1 against Lafayette. Lehigh concludes the regular season at 7-7 overall and 4-4 in Patriot League play. The Leopards finish their season 5-9 overall and 1-7 in league play.
Finn Morgan led Lehigh with six points on four goals and two assists. He has now recorded a hat trick or better in 11 games this season. Andrew Kelly and Luke Breslin each added four points; Kelly scored three goals with one assist, while Breslin had one goal and three assists.
Kasey Heath was outstanding in net for the Mountain Hawks, finishing with 19 saves, his second-highest total in a game this season.
Lehigh scored three of the first four goals to open the game, with Kelly capping the early spurt with his first goal of the night. The Leopards added two late goals to cut the deficit to 4-3 after one quarter.
Lafayette controlled the second quarter, outscoring Lehigh 5-1 to take a 9-5 lead into halftime.
Lehigh came out of the locker room on fire, scoring all five goals in the third quarter to take a 10-9 lead into the fourth. Kelly opened the second-half scoring for the Mountain Hawks, followed by back-to-back goals from Luke Winkler to bring Lehigh within one. Morgan then scored the final two goals of the period to give Lehigh the lead heading into the fourth.
Four more Mountain Hawk goals, along with strong defense led by Heath in goal, were enough for Lehigh to secure the 14-12 win and clinch a Patriot League Tournament berth.
