BETHLEHEM, Pa. – One day after defeating EIWA rival Navy 28-6 inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall 11 members of the Lehigh wrestling team, including several starters, competed at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Classic Sunday at Millersville University. It was a strong day for the Mountain Hawks, who crowned six individual champions including senior Zach Rey who picked up his 100th career victory en route to the heavyweight title.
Delia settled for second place at heavyweight after winning four straight bouts by decision to reach the finals.
Freshman Mason Beckman and senior Sean Bilodeau were the two other Mountain Hawks who competed at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Classic after wrestling against the Midshipmen Saturday night. Beckman went 5-0 en route to the title at 133, while Bilodeau went 5-0 with four wins by fall to capture top honors at 165. For the season, Bilodeau is now 11-1 with an incredible eight pins.
Lehigh's three other titlists were freshman Anthony Salupo (149), junior Joey Napoli (157) and junior Kevin Bailey (174). Napoli was competing unattached as he defers his eligibility this season while bumping up to 157.
In addition to its six champions, senior Kyle Rosser placed third at 149 and freshman John Bolich placed fourth at 184.
Lehigh moved to 6-4 in duals with its win over Navy on Saturday night. The Mountain Hawks will host EIWA rival Rutgers Friday at Stabler Arena in the annual Billy Sheridan Memorial Dual. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start and tickets can be purchased by calling 610-7LU-GAME or by logging on to Lehighsports.com. The Lehigh-Rutgers wrestling match is presented by Dunkin Donuts of the Lehigh Valley.
