BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh career goals leader Lauren Dykstra was honored with Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week laurels while freshman goalie Alexandra Fitzpatrick garnered her second straight Rookie of the Week award, as announced on Monday. The two enjoyed outstanding weeks to lead the Mountain Hawks to a 1-1 record entering the final stretch of regular season play.
Dykstra finished with an incredible 12 points in two games last week via 11 goals and an assist. In the process, she reached 243 career goals to break the 15-year Lehigh and Patriot League career goals mark of 242, previously held by Jill Altshuler. She also moved past Altshuler and into sole possession of 10th place in NCAA history, with her 243.
Overall, Dykstra has now garnered five weekly awards this season, winning offensive three times and midfielder twice. She is now up to 18 career weekly awards - Offensive (8), Rookie (5), Defensive (3) and Midfielder (2).
Dykstra continued to impress all over the field, recording four groundballs, four draw controls and a caused turnover over the two games. She began by tying a season-high seven goals and eight points in a monster effort against Iona. Dykstra then enjoyed her record-breaking day on Saturday against Virginia Tech out of the ACC, facing the same Hokies' squad who defeated nationally ranked Boston College earlier this season.
In the end, Dykstra scored four times while adding two groundballs, a draw control and caused turnover. Her record-breaking goal came with 12:30 remaining in the second half to give Lehigh a 5-3 advantage. She was also stellar on the defensive end, holding Virginia Tech's leading goal-scorer Jessica Nonn to only a single goal on Saturday.
Dykstra finished with 11 of Lehigh's 19 goals on the week. She now has 46 career hat tricks, including 11 in 13 games this season. With her 243 career goals, she stands within two of ninth place in NCAA history and seven of seventh place. For the season, Dykstra leads the Mountain Hawks with 70 points via 58 goals and 12 assists.
Earning her second straight Rookie of the Week award, Fitzpatrick continued her stellar play in goal, highlighted by her performance against Virginia Tech when she posted double-digits saves for the third time in her last five games.
Fitzpatrick began on Wednesday by making eight saves in a convincing 14-9 win over Iona. She was then sensational against the Hokies, holding them to six goals, their lowest total of the season. Fitzpatrick finished with 11 saves, including many point-blank chances.
The rookie sensation now owns an 8.34 GAA and Patriot League leading .522 save percentage, which is also good for second in the nation. Her save percentage has jumped 78 points all the way from .444 over the past five games. Fitzpatrick has 53 saves while only allowing 34 goals over that five-game stretch (.609 save percentage, 6.80 GAA in that span).
The Mountain Hawks wrap up the regular season with a three-game road trip. The first game will be at Penn State on Tuesday at 4 p.m. This will be followed by two big league games against Holy Cross on Saturday and Navy the following Saturday (Apr. 23). Lehigh will look to avenge last year's Patriot League final loss to Navy when it plays the Midshipmen on CBS Sports Network.
