BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a sensational 15-point week, Lehigh senior standout Lauren Dykstra was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The honor marks her third weekly award of the season after winning Midfielder of the Week on Feb. 21 and Offensive Player of the Week on Mar. 7.
The weekly award gives Dykstra 16 for her career – Offensive (7), Rookie (5), Defensive (3) and Midfielder (1). The Tewaaraton Award candidate is coming off perhaps her best week of the season, which included 15 points in two games behind 12 goals and three assists. She also accumulated four groundballs, four draw controls and three caused turnovers in those two games.
The Mendham, N.J. native began on Wednesday vs. Fairfield by setting a season-high six goals to go along with an assist. She then one-upped that on Saturday against Bucknell by posting a season-high eight points (six goals, two assists). Dykstra had a hand in six of the Mountain Hawks' first seven goals to help them jump out to an early lead on the way to a 19-2 triumph. She also had three groundballs, three draw controls and two caused turnovers against the Bison.
Dykstra was sensational on defense as well as she marked the opposition's top scorer and held them to a total of one point over the two games. On Wednesday, she held defending MAAC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-MAAC honoree Chloe Mangon to only one goal. Dykstra then held Bucknell's leading scorer and All-Patriot League honoree Julia Braun without a point.
Dykstra has already scored five or more goals in five games this season (and 19 in her career). She is also up to 42 career hat tricks. Through eight games this season, Dykstra leads the Mountain Hawks with 42 points behind 34 goals and eight assists. She is third in caused turnovers (11) and draw controls (18).
The senior has recorded at least one point in all 60 of her career games and has scored a goal in 59 of them. Dykstra currently owns a 40-game goal streak, among the best in the nation and tops in the Patriot League.
Fellow senior Allison Thomas was also recognized with honorable mention laurels. She posted seven points (five goals, two assists) for the week, along with seven draw controls and six groundballs. Thomas has now recorded three straight hat tricks and six straight multi-goal games overall.
Lehigh now hits the road to face a pair of in-state rivals. The Mountain Hawks head to Temple on Thursday (3 p.m.) before traveling to Lafayette next Sunday to face the Leopards.
