Mountain Hawks tabbed for fifth in women's tennis preseason poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – As the Lehigh women's tennis team prepares to open its season later this week, the Mountain Hawks learned on Monday that they were picked fifth in the Patriot League preseason poll. The Mountain Hawks garnered 37 points in the poll which is voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors.
The Mountain Hawks return four players from last year's squad which failed to reach the Patriot League semifinals for the first time in seven years. Lehigh returns senior Kiera Murasko-Blank, junior Liz Piscitelli and sophomores Patricia Muething and Abbey Perl, while four talented freshmen have also joined Dave Shook's team.Army has won six consecutive Patriot League titles and the Black Knights were picked to win a seventh straight in 2011. The Black Knights earned 71 points and 11 of 14 first place votes. Navy and Bucknell tied for second with the Mids claiming the other three first place votes. Colgate was picked fourth with 38 points, one more than Lehigh, with Lafayette and Holy Cross rounding out the poll.
Lehigh will open its season on Thursday when the Mountain Hawks host Rutgers at the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks will play their first seven matches at home. Lehigh will open Patriot League play against Holy Cross on March 27, while Navy will host the Patriot League tournament April 22-24.
