Cribbs honored as PL Defensive Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After picking up a pair of passes in Lehigh's 35-22 win over Princeton on Saturday, senior cornerback Jarard Cribbs has been named Patriot League Player of the Week. Cribbs made seven tackles on the day with both of his interceptions came in the second half to preserve Lehigh's lead.
This marks the first career Defensive Player of the Week award for Cribbs, who has twice been honored as the league's Special Teams Player of the Week. It also marks the second time in three weeks a Lehigh player has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, as Cribbs joins linebacker Al Pierce who captured the season's first award for his performance in Lehigh's season-opening win over Drake.
In the third quarter of Saturday's game, two plays after sophomore Jake Peery gave Lehigh the lead back at 17-16, Cribbs stymied a Princeton comeback attempt, intercepting a Tommy Wornham pass and returning it 27 yards to the Tiger 15 yard line. The interception led to Peery's second field goal of the day, which gave Lehigh a 20-16 lead.With just 6:24 to play, the Mountain Hawks held a 27-22 lead but had just gone three-and-out on offense. On Princeton's first play following a Lehigh punt, Cribbs stepped in front of Isaac Serwanga to pick off Wornham again. Following the interception, Lehigh drove 55 yards in nine plays and extended its lead on Michael Colvin's 12 yard touchdown pass to Alex Wojdowski.
Cribbs finished the day with seven total tackles to go along with his two interceptions. Despite allowing over 500 yards of total offense, the Mountain Hawks defense yielded just one Princeton touchdown and forced the Tigers to kick five field goals.
The first Mountain Hawk to pick off two passes in one game since Quadir Carter accomplished the feat at Holy Cross in 2008; Cribbs has now picked off passes in consecutive games and owns three for the season and eight for his Lehigh career.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Durham, New Hampshire to take on the nationally-ranked Wildcats at 12 p.m. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 as well as Lehighsports.com with pregame coverage getting underway at 11 a.m.
