BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s tennis team was picked fourth in the Patriot League preseason poll, announced Friday. The Mountain Hawks earned 42 points in the poll, which ties Lehigh with Navy for fourth in the poll, which is voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. Lehigh is off to a 1-6 start in 2010 but has reached the semifinals of the last six Patriot League tournaments.
The Mountain Hawks are led by seniors Julie Arthofer and Stacey Reich, while the eight player squad features four newcomers in freshmen Patricia Muething, Abbey Perl and Gena Levengood and sophomore Izzy Breit.
Five-time defending champion Army tops the poll once again with 71 points and 11 first-place votes. Colgate finished second with 60 points while Bucknell is third 56 points and two first place votes. Women’s tennis newcomer Navy earned the remaining first place vote and is tied for fourth with Lehigh, with Lafayette and Holy Cross rounding out the poll.
Lehigh is currently on a month-long break from competition. The Mountain Hawks will return to action on March 24, when they host Army in their Patriot League opener.
