Mountain Hawks prep for in-state foe

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team is finally ready to return to the diamond after almost a week off because of bad weather. The Mountain Hawks three-game series at Coppin State on March 12-13 was canceled due to rain and it got rescheduled for Monday only to get postponed once again. The Brown and White must now turn to its attention to Wednesday for a game against Saint Joseph’s at 3 p.m. in Philadelphia.
Lehigh (2-7) is coming of an 8-5 win over Sacred Heart last Wednesday in Florida. Junior Brendan Pifer hit the go-ahead home run to give the Mountain Hawks their second win of the season. Senior Ken Longernecker improved to 2-0 after he pitched 4.1 scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Wednesday’s meeting will mark the 25th between Lehigh and the Hawks with the Mountain Hawks leading the all-time series 12-10-2. Last season the Brown and White went 0-1-1 against Saint Joseph’s, losing 8-6 and tying 19-19.
The Hawks (1-8) are led by Dewey Oriente who is batting .472 and leads the team in hits (17). Quentin Farr picked up Saint Joseph’s only win this season in a 35-16 slugfest over New Mexico State. The Hawks set new school records in runs scored and hits (31) in their win over the Aggies.
Lehigh plans to send lefty Greg Angelo to the mound vs. Saint Joesph’s, while the Hawks will pitch A.J. Holland.
