Reliever Bryce Mitchell secured the win for Bucknell (14-11, 8-1 PL), allowing only one earned run with four strikeouts through 4.0 innings. Reliever Max Treonze was credited with the loss for Lehigh (6-18, 2-7 PL) in his team-leading 11th appearance of the season.
The Mountain Hawks had a strong start to the game, plating two runs in the top of the first on RBIs from Raffaele Rogers and Owen Walewander. However, the Bison responded right back in the bottom of the frame, scoring six runs while forcing two pitching changes in the process.
After a scoreless second inning on both sides, the Mountain Hawks cut into the Bison lead in the third. A bases loaded walk brought Lehigh within three before a sac-fly from Ian Wirtz set the score at 6-4 still in favor of Bucknell. An inning later, Walewander cleared the bases, crushing a grand slam to left field to put the Mountain Hawks ahead 8-6.
In the top of the sixth inning, Aidan Quinn and Rogers reached base with no outs on the board, allowing Walewander to send them home once again with his second home run of the day and third of the weekend. Now trailing 11-6, Bucknell erased their deficit in the bottom of the sixth, putting up a five spot to tie the game at 11-11.
The two teams traded scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth innings to keep the game tied headed to the ninth. The Mountain Hawks were retired 1-2-3 in the top of the inning, giving the Bison a chance to walk it off. Andrew Swenson's RBI single sent Zach Selfon past home plate to secure the weekend sweep for Bucknell.
Walewander finished the day going 2-3 with eight RBIs, two home runs, and a walk. The senior from Novato, California batted .400 with three home runs on the week.
Quinn batted 3-4 with a double while Ryan Cochran and Rogers both went 2-4. Trystan Crawford and Robbie Carvelli also recorded hits for Lehigh.
Pitchers that saw action other than Treonze included Cole Leaman, Brandon Coughlin, Noah Gyauch-Quirk, Cole Kochanowicz, and Ralph Gariano.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Tuesday, March 31 at 3 p.m. on the road in Philadelphia for round one of the Liberty Bell Classic against Saint Joseph's.
