Saint Joseph's (16-11, 8-1 A-10) reliever Justin Sweeney was given the win after striking out three batters in 2.1 scoreless innings. Lehigh (6-19, 2-7 PL) reliever Ryan Holman was credited with the loss.
The Mountain Hawks got on the board first in the top of the first inning courtesy of a solo home run by Owen Walewander. Saint Joe's responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first to take the lead. After stranding two runners on base, Lehigh conceded two more runs in the bottom of the second to trail by four through two innings.
After Max Dantoni and Raffaele Rogers got on base to start the top of the third, Walewander sent them home by crushing a three-run homer that brought Lehigh within one at 5-4. The Hawks built their lead back up to two in the fourth, but a five-run barrage from the Mountain Hawks in the top of the fifth lifted Lehigh to a 9-6 advantage.
Saint Joseph's responded in a big way in the bottom of the fifth, plating seven runs in the frame to go back up 13-9. Three more Hawks runs were scored in the bottom of the seventh to extend the Saint Joe's lead to seven before a Cadeyrn Ahearn RBI cut Lehigh's deficit to six in the eighth. The game was called at the conclusion of the top of the eighth inning.
Walewander had a big day once again for Lehigh, batting 3-5 with five RBIs and two home runs. Walewander has now hit two home runs in consecutive games.
Dantoni had his best outing in a Lehigh uniform thus far, batting 3-3 with two walks and a run scored. Ahearn and Rogers both collected two hits while Trystan Crawford, Ian Wirtz, Parker Ivy, Robby Grasso, and Silvio Giardina also recorded hits for the Mountain Hawks.
Tommy Lamar, Declan Wilkes, Jackson Shepelsky, Shane O'Neill, David Andolina, Grady Golier, and Nick Hayden saw action on the mound in addition to Holman.
The Mountain Hawks return to Patriot League play for a three-game series at Navy in Annapolis from Saturday, April 4 to Sunday, April 5.
