Mountain Hawks Drop Game Two To Bucknell 6-3

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lehigh baseball returned to Depew Field in Lewisburg on Saturday afternoon to compete against the Bucknell Bison in game two of the weekend's Patriot League series. The Mountain Hawks dropped a 6-3 decision in nine innings to the Bison.
Starter Jake Schultz picked up the win for Bucknell (13-11, 7-1 PL), striking out four batters while allowing one earned run in 3.2 innings of work while Hadley Maxwell earned his second save of the weekend. Starter Jake Mulvehill was credited with the loss for Lehigh (6-17, 2-6 PL) after allowing four earned runs in 3.1 innings.
After retiring the side 1-2-3 to start the game, the Bison took a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a sac-fly from Ty Lagoni. Bucknell did more damage in the bottom of the third, plating three runs on RBIs from Lagoni, Michael Chiaravallo, and Garrett Mathias. A Robbie Carvelli RBI single in the top of the fourth brought Lehigh within three through four innings.
Bucknell extended its lead to five in the fifth inning when a Mathias single scored Lagoni. On the same play, Chiaravallo advanced to home plate on a throwing error to make it 6-1 Bucknell. The Mountain Hawks found some offense in the top of the sixth, as RBIs from Trystan Crawford and Ian Wirtz trimmed Lehigh's deficit to three runs.
After being held scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings, the Mountain Hawks threatened in the top of the ninth. A Ryan Cochran walk and singles from Aidan Quinn and Owen Walewander loaded the bases with two outs on the board. Despite getting three baserunners aboard, Maxwell recorded the final out to secure the weekend series win for Bucknell.
Walewander had a big day at the plate, going 3-5 with a double and two runs scored. Cochran finished his afternoon batting 2-4 with a walk. Quinn, Crawford, Carvelli, and Wirtz provided the other hits for Lehigh. David Andolina and Ralph Gariano also saw action on the mound in addition to Mulvehill.
The Mountain Hawks will conclude their series against Bucknell on Sunday, March 29 at 1 p.m. from Depew Field.
