Lehigh Rolls Past FDU 9-2

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball welcomed the FDU Knights to J. David Walker Field on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek contest. The Mountain Hawks prevailed by a score of 9-2, snapping a nine-game FDU winning streak in the process.
Reliever Ryan Holman earned the win for Lehigh (6-15, 2-4 P, striking out six batters with five hits and two earned runs in 4.2 innings pitched. Starter Noah Gyauch-Quirk struck out two batters in 3.2 scoreless innings while Tommy Lamar recorded the final two outs of the game for the Mountain Hawks. FDU (14-8, 8-1 NEC) starter Neylin Navarro was credited with the loss after allowing three earned runs on five hits in 2.0 innings.
Silvio Giardina got the scoring started for the Mountain Hawks in the bottom of the second, sending home Ian Wirtz on an RBI single. Ryan Cochran followed suit with an RBI double the next at bat before a Raffaele Rogers RBI double gave Lehigh a 3-0 advantage through two innings.
Rogers extended Lehigh's lead to five in the bottom of the fourth with a two-RBI single that sent Giardina and Wirtz past home plate. Cochran then scampered past home plate on a wild pitch before a bases loaded walk for Trystan Crawford put the Mountain Hawks up by seven runs. A Robbie Carvelli RBI on a fielder's choice lifted Lehigh to an 8-0 lead through four.
The Mountain Hawks maintained their eight-run advantage until the bottom of the seventh when another RBI from Crawford plated Lehigh its ninth run of the afternoon. The Knights got back two runs in the top of the ninth with two outs on the board, but a Lamar strikeout of FDU's Nick Quagliato secured the win for Lehigh.
Rogers finished the day batting 3-3 with three RBIs, a run scored, a double, and a walk. Wirtz went 3-4 with two runs scored, a triple, and a walk while Giardina went 2-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk. Cochran, Aidan Quinn, Jack Frankovic, Dom Patrizi, and Crawford also recorded hits for Lehigh.
The Mountain Hawks head west for a weekend series against the Bucknell Bison in Lewisburg, Pa. from Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29. Game one begins at 3 p.m. on Friday.
