Wysocki named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week
11/1/2010 8:32:00 PM | Men's Soccer
This marks the fifth straight week that a Lehigh player has earned a weekly award. Sophomore Cameron Omsberg was named Defensive Player of the Week last Monday. Two weeks ago, junior Neal Melchionni earned Offensive Player of the Week while also cracking the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
Wysocki also becomes the sixth different Lehigh player to be honored this season. Omsberg, senior James Graf and junior Kevin Strunk have all earned Defensive Player of the Week, while Melchionni garnered offensive laurels and senior Jonathan Nydell earned Goalkeeper of the Week.
With the game scoreless heading into the second overtime on Sunday, Wysocki took a cross from junior Joe Puleo and played it off his left foot and past Army goalkeeper Ryan Curren for the thrilling golden goal to give Lehigh its first overtime victory of the season.
Wysocki is the seventh different Lehigh player, and first freshman, to score a goal this season. He is also the sixth different Mountain Hawk to score a game-winning goal.
Sunday's win, coupled with Colgate's tie at Navy, means the Mountain Hawks remain alive for the regular season championship and the right to host the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2006. They need to beat Bucknell on Saturday and have Colgate lose or tie against American to earn the top spot.
The Mountain Hawks return to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday for Senior Day against the Bison. Graf, Nydell and Matt Thaeder will be honored at halftime.
