WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior Scott Robinson won the 400-hurdles in a time of 53.19 seconds and classmate E.J. Schuck took first in the decathlon with 6,348 points as Lehigh wrapped up action at the 2009 Patriot League Championships on Saturday.  Bucknell won the women’s competition after totaling 188.50 points and the Bison were followed by Navy, Colgate, Army, Holy Cross, the Mountain Hawks, Lafayette and American.  The host Army Black Knights placed first in the men’s action with 234 points, with Bucknell in second, followed by Navy, Lafayette, the Mountain Hawks, Holy Cross, American and Colgate.  Nine Mountain Hawks earned All-League honors, including six on the women’s side.

“We had some very good things happen this weekend,” explained Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch.  “Unfortunately we needed some great things to happen.  I told the team afterwards that we have accomplished each of the goals we set for ourselves up to this point.  Unfortunately this weekend we fell a little short of our goals, but we still have other things we want to accomplish this season.”

In women’s action, senior Sarah Serwo scored eight points in the 800 with a second place finish, while classmate Jen Therkorn placed fifth in the same event, scoring two points in the process.  Freshman Lauren Sternick placed third in the 1500 with a time of 4:41.60, as she picked up six team points and the 4x100 relay team scored four points after a fourth place finish.

“Sarah ran very well; her time was better than it was last season.  The 4x800 team was a little unfortunate as well with their event.  We just needed some magic and did not get it.”

On the men’s side, Robinson picked up one point in the 400 with a sixth place finish and two points in the 110-hurdles after finishing fifth.  Dan McClimon scored four points in the 5000 as he crossed in 14:59.73, good for fourth place, while in the field events Nick Ray took fourth in the shot after a throw of 51’3”

“Scott did a great job all day, as did E.J.” Utesch explained.  “I thought our freshmen competed extremely well.  Kyle Forrest won the 1500 in the decathlon and came right back and ran a competitive leg of the 4x100.”

Earning All-League honors on the women’s side were Emily Settle in the hammer, Charrell Mack in the long jump, the 4x800 relay team of Alex Neville, Shannon Alejandro, Therkorn and Serwo, and Serwo in the 800.

Joining Robinson on the All-League team on the men’s side were Khalil Uqdah in the pole vault and Schuck in the decathlon.

Select Mountain Hawks will be back in action in two weeks at the 2009 ECAC/IC4A Championships on the campus of Princeton University.  The action gets underway on May 15th and runs through the 16th.

“I told the team we’re not going to mope around.  We achieved nearly all of our goals and we’re looking to achieve other goals before we’re done here.  We have a lot of talent headed to the IC4A/ECAC Championships and those kids are more than capable of getting it done.  I’m very confident we’ll have a few strong weeks of practice here and come out ready to compete in two weeks.”
