Lehigh wraps up action in N.J.; three moving on

PRINCETON, N.J. – Lehigh wrapped up competition at the 2009 ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships on Sunday, as two individuals competed, in addition to one relay team.  The women’s 4x800 team crossed in a time of 9:03.63 to place sixth in their event, as the Mountain Hawks defeated Yale and Harvard.  The relay team consisted of Shannon Alejandro, Jillian Randolph, Sarah Serwo and Jen Therkorn.  Juniors Nick Ray (shot put) and Frank Johson (triple jump) also competed, as Ray finished 18th and Johnson 20th.  Lehigh wraps up the weekend with three NCAA Regional qualifiers, as senior Sarah Serwo (800), junior Khalil Uqdah (pole vault) and sophomore James Pachucki (javelin) all punched their ticket to North Carolina for the East Regional. 

Ray placed 18th in the shot put with a throw of 50’7 1/2”.  Manhattan’s Milan Jotanovic took first in the event which included 28 competitors.  In the triple jump, Johnson posted a 20th place finish in a field of 32 competitors as he jumped 46’2”.  Manhattan’s Albert Johnson won the event with a leap of 52’0 1/2”.

 

On Saturday, Serwo broke her own school record in the 800 with a time of 2:09.65 to place ninth in a tough field of competitors as she earned a berth to the NCAA Regional.  She backed that performance up by running one leg for the 4x800 relay team, which qualified for Sunday’s final with a time of 8:58.38.  The Mountain Hawks placed sixth in Sunday’s final, while Duke crossed first in a time of 8:44.11.

 

In men’s action, junior Khalil Uqdah posted his best jump of the season on Saturday as he cleared 16’6 3/4”in the pole vault to place second, while sophomore James Pachucki placed third in the javelin with a personal best throw of 207’11”.  Uqdah and Pachucki join Serwo as Regional qualifiers and the pair of Mountain Hawks earned All-East accolades.

Other Mountain Hawks in action on Saturday included senior E.J. Shuck in the long jump, as he posted a jump of 22’1 3/4” to place 22nd, and the women’s 4x100 relay team, which consisted of Alex Doersam, Latasha Watson, Allison Grese and Lindsey Corbetta and crossed in 48.47 seconds.

 

Lehigh’s three NCAA Regional qualifiers will make the trip to Greensboro, North Carolina to compete at the 2009 East Regional Outdoor Championship held May 29-30.
