GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lehigh concluded its 2009 season this weekend at the NCAA East Regional, held on the campus of North Carolina A&T University as three Mountain Hawks competed. Senior Sarah Serwo ran the 800 in a time of 2:14.09 in the prelims, while sophomore James Pachucki finished 14th in the javelin with a throw of 199’4” and junior Khalil Uqdah finished 17th in the pole vault.
“I am extremely proud of the way our athletes competed at the Regional championship,” Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch explained. “They always represent the University in the very best light.”
He continued, “James and Khalil will be back next year to provide excellent leadership for our men’s program, and we all wish Sarah the very best and thank her for a spectacular career at Lehigh.”
Serwo placed 22nd in the prelims of the 800 with her time of 2:14.09. Unfortunately her time did not qualify her for a spot in the finals. Kate Grace of Yale had the fastest time of the prelims as she crossed in 2:06.69, while Pilar McShine of Florida State won the finals with a time of 2:06.55.
Pachucki tied for 14th place in the javelin with Liberty’s Ryan Bell, while Chris Hill or Georgia won the event with a throw of 263’7”. Pachucki sat in a tie for seventh place following the first two flights before the final round of throws.
Uqdah cleared 16’1 1/4” in the pole vault to finish 17th, while Nico Weiler of Harvard won the event after clearing 17’7”. For Uqdah it was his second best jump in a season in which he was never fully healthy.
