Bethlehem, PA - The Lehigh Women’s Tennis program announced its team award winners at its year-end banquet this past weekend. The team celebrated its successful season that saw them finish in the top two in the Patriot League and make the Patriot League postseason tournament. The Coaches Award went to sophomore Starr Foster. The award is given to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement, or special leadership. Foster was a welcome addition to the Lehigh team in her first season, posting the second best singles record on the team at 12-4. Senior Kristen Nowicki was the winner of the team’s Athlete of the Year Award, given to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishment of the team. Nowicki was named the Patriot League’s Player of the Year, earning her second straight All-League honor, and went 15-1 in top flight singles play and 15-3 in top flight doubles, helping the Mountain Hawks to one of their most successful seasons ever.
Several Lehigh program awards were handed out for individual accomplishments from the 2003-04 season. Freshman Gwen Dwyer took home the program’s highest honor as she received the Scholar-Athlete award. Given to the student-athlete who best combines academics and athletics, Dwyer boasts a 3.78 grade point average in Arts and Sciences, and performed very well this season moving up and down the lineup to help out where needed, posting an 11-7 record in singles and 11-5 in doubles action.
