Mountain Hawks look to continue torrid pace against Leopards

Bethlehem, PA – The Mountain Hawks are off to a fantastic start to their season, as they sit at 11-2 (1-0 in the Patriot League) coming into Thursday’s match-up against archrival Lafayette at the Lewis Tennis Center. Lehigh has been on fire of late, as they have won five straight matches, each by at least three points. In all, nine of the team’s eleven wins have come by scores of 6-1 or 7-0.

Lafayette comes to town looking to avenge a 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Mountain Hawks last year in Easton. The Leopards are 5-3 on the year and 0-1 in Patriot League play, having lost 7-0 to American. The two schools have two common opponents, as Lehigh defeated American 5-2 on Saturday, and bested Villanova 6-1 earlier in the year. The Leopards lost to Villanova 6-1.

The Mountain Hawks have been winning by getting consistent effort from each and every player in the rotation, as every member has a winning record in both singles and doubles on the season. Kristen Nowicki, the top-flight singles player and top-flight doubles partner with Rachel Samson, has been on fire, running out to a 10-1 record in singles and a 12-1 mark in doubles.

Lehigh’s success has been even more remarkable considering they regularly feature three or four freshmen in the lineup. Gwen Dwyer, Lindsay Long, Ashley Donohue, and Cessa Murasko-Blank have all stepped in and made contributions to the early season success.

The match gets underway at 3:00 pm Thursday afternoon at Lewis.
