The Lehigh men’s and women’s tennis squads will compete in a bevy of matches this weekend. The action gets underway on Thursday as the women face off with Rutgers with the first serve taking place at 3:00 p.m.
On Friday, Lehigh’s men will face Temple in its second match of the season. Two weeks ago the Mountain Hawks were upended by the Penn Quakers 7-0 in their season opener.
As the weekend progresses, fans will have three more chances to see the Mountain Hawks in action. On Saturday the men’s and women’s teams will both face off with Stony Brook. The women’s match gets under way at 1:00 p.m., while the men take to the Lewis Tennis Center courts at 4:00 p.m. Also on Saturday Stony Brook faces Temple in early morning action. The final match of the weekend takes place on Sunday. Lehigh’s women will face Towson in action beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The tennis teams are rebounding from seasons that saw them go a combined 22-20. The women and men were both picked fifth in the annual Patriot League pre season poll. The women’s team managed a 12-8 overall record last season, 2-3 in the league, while the men went 10-12 overall, 0-6 in the league.
Team captain Andrea Scott leads the way for the Mountain Hawks. Last season the senior from Wethersfield, Connecticut was 12-2 in singles competition and 9-9 in doubles matches. Also over .500 for coach Shook’s team was sophomore Jamie Faas. Faas was 16-9 in singles play, 12-8 in doubles last year as a freshmen.
On the men’s side, captains Ryan Cann and Craig Ditman look to set the pace for this year’s squad. Cann and Ditman went a combined 19-31 last season in singles matches and 8-6 in doubles play.
