Bethlehem, PA- With the start of tennis season just around the corner, the Patriot League has announced its pre season men’s and women’s tennis polls. Lehigh’s tennis teams have been selected fifth in the league’s annual poll, while American has been tabbed as the pre season favorite in both polls. The Mountain Hawks earned 21 points on the women’s side, while the men’s team earned 25 points. The Lehigh women completed last season with a 12-8 overall record and were 2-3 in Patriot League competition. Leading the way for the ladies will be senior Andrea Scott. Scott was 12-2 in singles competition and 9-9 in doubles action. A welcome addition to this year’s squad is Kristen Nowicki. Nowicki comes to Lehigh from Penn State and is expected to make an immediate impact in both singles in doubles competition. For the men, this season will be a youthful one. The squad is comprised of two seniors, one junior, four sophomores, and two freshmen. Senior co-captain Ryan Cann has emerged as one of the top players in the program and last year helped the Mountain Hawks to a 10-12 overall record, 0-6 in the league. Joining Cann is fellow captain Craig Ditman. Ditman posted a 6-10 record last year in singles competition; however, he was hampered by various injuries during the season. Lehigh’s men open up the 2003 season on Saturday at Pennsylvania. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m. The women’s team will make their 2003 debut on February 6th in a home match vs. Rutgers. Â
