Bethlehem, PA – The Lehigh women’s tennis team hosted the Patriot League Championships at the Ulrich Tennis Courts on the Goodman Campus this weekend. Newcomer American and Army were the top team finishers, capturing five and three titles respectively. In the first singles flight, the Mountain Hawks’ Rachel Samson earned a first round bye. Samson then fell in the semifinals to eventual champion Olga Mikhailova of American, 7-5, 6-3. Erica Feinman also received a bye in the first round for second singles. In the semifinals, Feinman faced Army’s Ali Rohr, losing in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Third singles saw Jamie Faas defeat Bucknell’s Samantha Berthod, 7-6, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals. Faas then faced eventual champion Melissa Sentelle, falling 6-4, 6-2. Alina Kors defeated Lafayette’s Jessie Abel, 6-4, 6-2, in the opening round of fourth singles. Semifinal foe and top-seeded Melanie Bundoc of Army proved too much, topping Kors 6-0, 6-1. Andrea Scott outlasted her first round opponent, Susan King of Lafayette, 7-6, 6-1 in fifth singles. Scott then faced the top seed, Bucknell’s Tanya Sichko, falling in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Meggan Dencker was the recipient of one of the two first round byes in sixth singles. Dencker extended her match against American’s Melissa Rausch to three sets, before falling 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. The doubles draw went much better for the Mountain Hawks, with two of the three teams reaching the finals. The team of Samson and Feinman advanced to the semifinals on a bye then downed Army’s Amy Collier and Rohr 8-5 to reach the finals. In the finals, the top-seeded team of Lourdes Riusech and Mikhailova of American proved more than Samson and Feinman could handle, as Lehigh’s entry fell 8-4. In the second doubles match, Faas and Korogodsky downed Bucknell’s Berthod and Kristin Inglis 8-6 to reach the semifinals. American’s Lauren Martin and Kristina Georgieva, the eventual champions, dispatched the Mountain Hawk duo 8-1 in that round. Lehigh’s pair of Renee Kaplan and Scott opened the third doubles draw with a pair of victories. The Colgate team of Lindsey Sine and Grabler stretched Kaplan and Scott to the limit, with the Lehigh duo taking the opening round match 9-7. In the semifinals, the pair sent away Lafayette’s Lisa Sayed and Susan King, 8-2, to reach the finals. The Mountain Hawk pair could not find an answer for the top seeded Army team of Marissa Limsiaco and Bernosky, losing 8-4. First Flight Singles Rachel Samson
