BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh returns to the courts for the first time in a month this weekend as the Mountain Hawks will host the Men’s and Women’s team tennis challenge Saturday and Sunday on the Goodman Campus. Women’s teams from Delaware, Temple and Patriot League rival Army will join the Mountain Hawks for the first of two events Lehigh will host this month.
“The biggest thing is we’re looking to get experience for our younger kids,” explained Lehigh head coach Dave Shook. “We have four women who have practically no experience, so we will be looking to get them some matches and see how they compete and if they can have success and pick up some wins.”
The Mountain Hawks opened their fall season at the Cornell Fall Invitational September 18-20. Lehigh will also host the Lehigh Fall Tennis Championships, October 24-25 on the Goodman Campus. This weekend Shook expects all 12 of the Ulrich Varsity outdoor courts to be in use, plus all four courts inside the Lewis Tennis Center. He believes this weekend’s matches will be a good barometer for where his teams stand.
“We’re looking to find out where we are,” said Shook. “We will figure out what we need to work on in the rest of the fall season and heading into our spring season so we can have a successful year.”
Action begins Saturday morning on the Ulrich Varsity Courts and inside the Lewis Tennis Center and is expected to run through Sunday afternoon.
