Lehigh ready to open PLT versus Holy Cross

In the first meeting between the teams, Lehigh swept the doubles matches and won five of six singles matches to pick up its first Patriot League win. The Crusaders’ lone victory in that match came at No. 2 singles where Meg Moran defeated Ariela Cohen 6-3, 6-0.
Juniors Allie Schwartz and Ruthie Furman have established themselves as Lehigh’s top doubles team, playing together almost exclusively since the start of the season. The duo was 7-10 in doubles matches as a team including 2-3 in league doubles contest. Head coach Dave Shook has mixed his No. 2 and No. 3 teams over the last few weeks, but Cohen, sophomores Stacey Reich and Julie Arthofer and freshman Kiera Murasko-Blank should figure in the mix in doubles.
Schwartz has held down the top singles spot, but it has been Reich and junior Victoria Vityuk leading the way in singles with 13 wins apiece. Reich has played No. 6 singles predominantly, while Vityuk holds down No. 5 singles. Arthofer (No. 3) Furman (No. 4) also have reached the ten win mark in singles action in the spring season.

The Patriot League tournament follows a first to four points format, and gets underway Friday at 11 a.m. when Lehigh faces Holy Cross. With a win over the Crusaders, Lehigh would advance to the Patriot League semifinals for the fifth straight year, and would face top seed Army, Saturday at 11 a.m. The Mountain Hawks have never won the Patriot League championship in women’s tennis.
The other side of the bracket pits No. 3 Colgate against No. 6 Lafayette at 3 p.m. Friday with the winner facing No. 2 Bucknell on Saturday. The Patriot League championship match is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday from Army’s
