Colgate outlasts Lehigh in Mountain Hawks' P.L. opener

The Raiders earned the doubles point by winning all three matches, though each was tightly contested. At first doubles, Colgate’s Reed Hagmann and Chris Innes topped the Lehigh tandem of Randall Smalley and Ty Esler by an 8-4 score. Second doubles was also 8-4 in favor of the home team, as Colgate’s Peter Oman and Mickey Gallagher bested Lehigh’s Ryan Lloyd and Brad Nelson. At third doubles, Lehigh’s Jon Nespoli and Andrew Shapiro fought hard but came up on the short end of an 8-6 score to Jake Heims and Tyler Deck.
In singles action, the two squads split the six flights. Lehigh earned wins from Ty Esler at second flight, Ryan Lloyd at third, and Jon Nespoli at sixth. Nespoli’s win over Colgate’s Tyler Deck was particularly hard fought, as Nespoli battled back to win 6-7, 6-3, 10-7.
Lehigh returns to the court on Thursday, April 7, as the Mountain Hawks visit Patriot League foe Bucknell. First serve is set for 3:00 pm from Lewisburg.
