Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh sophomore Patrick McCahill shot a 111 in the first 27 holes of action as Lehigh sits in a second place tie with Army at the halfway mark of the 2003 Patriot League golf championship, being played on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. The host Mountain Hawks along with the Black Knights each posted a 457 in the first day of competition to sit just 15 strokes behind first place Navy. McCahill and all of the competitors battled through soggy conditions on the well-groomed course all day long. McCahill leads Lehigh’s efforts, as he sits in a tie for fourth place with Army’s Kevin Lee. Mountain Hawk Nam-Kyu Park is sixth overall, after shooting a four-over-par 112 for the day. Lehigh’s John Jaravata (79-38-117) and Rob McMenimon (78-40-118) were the other two Mountain Hawks to score in the event’s first day of competition. Navy’s Brian Crum and Billy Hurley are in a deadlock for the top spot overall after they each posted a score of 107 on the day. The 2003 Patriot League golf championship concludes on Sunday with 27 more holes from Saucon Valley, with the tournament winner receiving the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Golf Championships.
