CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Lehigh sits in third place among 21 schools after day one of the Lafayette Invitational in which the Mountain Hawks posted a team score of 311. Senior Shane Gilroy is tied for seventh in the individual standings after he shot a 75, while freshman Doug Marcincin is tied for 11th place with a 76. Delaware and Drexel are currently tied for first in the team standings with identical scores of 306 on the par-72 course at Center Valley Country Club.
All five Mountain Hawk competitors are currently in the top-41 in the individual standings with senior Will Robinson tied for 23rd with a score of 79, Duncan Zeiders tied for 37th place with an 81 and Steve Suarez tied for 41st place with an 82. Gilroy’s 36 on the front nine was the lowest nine-hole total of any Mountain Hawk on Saturday. Dwight D’IOrio also competed and shot an 80 on the first 18 holes, which places him in a tie for 28th individually, but his score does not count towards the Lehigh team total.
Justin Martinson of Delaware, Adam Farry of Robert Morris and Nathan Peck of St. Bonaventure are all currently tied for first after shooting a 73 in the first round. The top five of the team standings has Delaware and Drexel tied at 306, Lehigh next in line with a 311 and Robert Morris, Siena and Villanova all tied fourth place after shooting a 315.
