Mountain Hawks tied for fifth after day one of PLC

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After 36 holes of golf on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club, Lehigh sits in a tie for fifth place with a score of 642 (325, 317) at the 2008 Patriot League Championship. The Mountain Hawks are tied with the Holy Cross Crusaders (318, 324 = 642). Navy is the overall leader with a two-round score of 618 (311, 307) and the Mids are followed by Bucknell (322, 303 = 625), Colgate (322, 313 = 635), Army (317, 323 = 640), Lehigh (642), Holy Cross (642) and Lafayette (343, 315 = 658). Colgate’s Richard Hayes is the individual leader after shooting a 147 (76, 71), while Lehigh’s top competitor is junior Will Robinson in sixth place with a 155 (78, 77).

Also competing for Lehigh on Saturday were Steve Suarez who shot a 162 (82, 80) and is tied for 15th place, Shane Gilroy who is in a tie for 19th place with a 163 (83, 80) and Chad Lubart who is tied for 26th place after totaling a 167 (82, 85). Dwight Diorio (88, 80 = 168) and Duncan Zeiders (87, 84 = 171) also took part in the championship, but only the top four scores of each school is counted towards the team total.

Navy’s Erich Schoen is in second place overall with a 148 (74, 74), followed by his teammate David Miller (78, 75 = 153) and Bucknell’s Rahul Desai (79, 74 = 153) and Andrew Cohen (80, 73 = 153) who are all in a tie for third. Colgate’s Richard Hayes, the overall leader, had the day’s lowest score, shooting a 71 on the second 18 of the day.

The third and final round gets underway on Sunday morning beginning at 8:00.
