Bethlehem, PA – Widely lauded for his stellar play in 2003, Lehigh tight end Adam Bergen is already receiving high praise in 2004. Members of the national media are once again expecting big things from the 6-foot-5, 260 pound tight end, as he has recently garnered several preseason honors. On Wednesday, Bergen was named a First Team Preseason All-American by The Sports Network.
The honor follows recent recognition from other national media outlets as well. Bergen was recently named a First Team Preseason All-American by Lindy’s magazine.
Bergen led Lehigh and ranked third in the Patriot League with 70 catches for 840 yards in 2003. The tight end averaged 12 yards per catch, and he posted a team-high six touchdown receptions last season.
Following the 2003 season, Bergen was named an All-America tight end by CSTV. He was also selected to The Sports Network’s All-America team, the Associated Press All-America Second Team, the ECAC All-Star squad, and the All-Patriot League first team (as voted on by the Patriot League’s head coaches).
The Mountain Hawks have the best winning percentage in all of I-AA over the last six seasons. With a record of 61-12 during that time span, Lehigh has won 83.56% of its games. Many prognosticators have the Mountain Hawks in their preseason top 25 for 2004, including The Sports Network, who lists Lehigh at 17.
