Lehigh edged out by Navy in doubleheader

In the first game, Joe Matteo and Oliver Drake kept the game scoreless through the first four and a half innings of play. Navy’s offense awoke in the bottom of the fifth, batting around the order for five runs to break the game open at 5-0.
Lehigh put up two runs in the top of the seventh on RBI from Brendan McGaheran and Andy Russell to cut the score to 5-2. However, Lehigh’s offense could not put up anymore runs in the inning, as Chris Murray came to get the final two outs of the game to pick up his third save of the year.
Matteo (3-3) was hit with the loss, pitching 4.1 innings, surrendering five runs on 11 hits while striking out six. Ken Longernecker relieved Matteo in the fifth and pitched 1.2 innings of perfect relief.
Drake (4-2) earned the win, pitching 6.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out six.
In the second game, Navy scored first on an RBI single from Thomas Hamilton in the bottom of the first. Lehigh responded in the next half inning, as Logan Marshall led off with a double to right center, then came around to score on a groundout by Patrick Groome.
The score remained tied at 1-1 till the bottom of the fifth when Navy struck for two runs to take the lead back at 3-1. The Midshipmen put up one more run in the next inning to give them their 19th win of the year.
Geoff Campbell came into relieve Mihalik, and was able to keep the Navy bats at bay, as he allowed just two hits in two innings of work.
Mark McCoy (4-1) was credited with the win, giving up one run on seven hits in eight innings of work. Drew Carlson worked a perfect bottom of the ninth to pick up his second save of the year.
