Men take first; women fifth at John Covert Classic

For the Lehigh men, sophomore E.J. Schuck and junior Brian Voorhis earned 18 team points with a 1-2 finish in the heptathlon. Schuck accumulated 4407 points, while Voorhis placed second with 4268. Senior David Falk won the 200 meter dash, with a time of 22.81 seconds.
In the men’s 800 meters senior Brian Ahearn and junior Kyle Manning secured the top two spots. Ahearn took top honors, crossing the line in 1:57.25. Manning turned in the only other sub-two minute time to place second.
Freshman Kenneth Burgess won the 3000 meters, finishing with a time of 9:13.02. Burgess was one of four Mountain Hawks to score points in the event. The Mountain Hawks also took the top three spots in the 5000 meters, with sophomore Jonathan Wetzel placing first in 15:59.35, junior Marty Michael taking second and junior Joe Kelly finishing third.
The Lehigh women scored a third of their team points in the 800 meters. Sophomore Sarah Serwo led the way, winning the event with a time of 2:22.43. Sophomores Jen Therkorn, Shannon Alejandro and freshman Jillian Randolph secured the next three sports to give Lehigh a total of 28 points from the event. The Mountain Hawks picked up ten more team points with a victory in 4 x 400 meter relay.
Freshman Nicole Passeri was Lehigh’s top point scorer in the women’s pentathlon. Passeri accumulated 2895 points for fourth place overall, earning four team points.
