WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lehigh’s men’s and women’s track and field teams finished competition at the 2007 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships at Army’s Gillis Field House on Sunday, with the women tying with Holy Cross for fifth place with 47.75 points and the Mountain Hawk men placing sixth out of eight teams with 43 points.  Army won the men’s meet with 154.50 points, while Bucknell won its sixth consecutive women’s crown.  The Bison amassed 192 points.

On the women’s side, Lehigh saw one school record set and another record tied as well as had five season-best performances on Sunday.  Senior Jenni Schappert capped off a stellar indoor career by setting a new record in the 3000 meter run, breaking Lucinda Hall’s record of 9:59.4 that was set in 2002.  Schappert, who placed second, finished the race in a time of 9:58.61, which also met the ECAC qualifying standard.  Meanwhile, junior Emily Roth tied her school record in the pole vault, jumping a height of 11’3¾”.  It was the second straight meet Roth has cleared that height.

Sophomore Sarah Serwo ran a career-best 1:16.51 in the 500 meter dash and placed third, while classmate Shannon Alejandro ran a personal best 5:09.52 in the mile, placing fifth and edging out Army’s Meghan Curran by .05 of a second.  Freshman Jillian Randolph finished fifth in the 1000 meter run, racing a career-best 3:01.51.

Competing in the distance medley relay for the first time this season, Lehigh’s relay team of senior Lauren King, Alejandro, Serwo and Randolph ran the second fastest time in program history.  The quartet finished in a time of 12:24.32 and placed fourth.

On the men’s side, the Mountain Hawks ran the season's top time in two track events as well as had one season-best performance in the field.  Senior Victor Vientos ran a season-best 8:30.15 in the 3000 meter run and placed fifth.  Also competing in the distance medley relay for the first time this season, Lehigh’s relay team of senior Kevin Ahearn, junior Kyle Manning, sophomore Ben Lampi and freshman Matthew Foley placed seventh with a time of 10:33.90.

In the field, freshman Franklin Johnson leapt over 47-feet in the triple jump for the second consecutive meet.  Johnson jumped a career-best 47’3” on Sunday and placed sixth.

At the conclusion of the meet, the All-League teams were announced.  Lehigh placed three athletes on the Second-Team with Schappert picking up honors for the 3000 meter run, sophomore E.J. Schuck earning honors for the heptathlon and freshman Khalil Uqdah receiving honors for the pole vault.
