Mountain Hawks compete at Winthrop Invite

WINTHROP, S.C. – Lehigh headed south this weekend to compete in the Winthrop Invitational and put several impressive performances throughout.  Senior Karen Welby won the 800-meter run, finishing in a time of 2:16.86, and junior Jen Schappert placed second in the 1500-meter run, crossing in a time of 4:38.95.  Garrett Zambrows won the 800 on the men’s side, as he crossed in a time of 1:54.73, finishing two spots ahead of junior Brian Ahearn (third – 1:55.73).


For the Lehigh women, senior captain K.T. Hessler finished in fifth place in the high jump, as she cleared 5’3”, while teammates Carolyn House and Sarah Seiler finished two-three in the 5,000-meter run.

 

While on the men’s side of things, Kyle Manning came in fifth place behind Ahearn and Zambrows in the 800, and senior Rob Hamson took third in the 1500-meters, crossing in a time of 3:59.25.  Sean Swift, Brendan Glover and Steve Rosinski finished one-two-three in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing within 15 seconds of one another and seniors Vaclav Malek and Cody Smart took first and second place respectively in the high jump, while Victor Vientos crossed the finish line in a time of 15:10.83 in the 5,000-meters, good for a third place showing.

Lehigh returns to action on Friday, April 7 when the Mountain Hawks welcome archrival Lafayette to town.  Action is scheduled to get underway at 2:00 from the Goodman Campus.
