LEWISBURG,
Bucknell drops to 7-16, 0-2 with the two setbacks on Saturday.
In the first game, the Bison jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Collina settled down. Meanwhile, Lehigh’s offense responded with four runs on four hits in the top of the fifth as the Mountain Hawks took the lead for the first time. The Brown and White took advantage of two Bucknell errors in forging ahead.
Meanwhile, after giving up three early runs, Collina baffled the Bucknell hitters. In all, 12 of the 21 Bison outs came via the strikeout from the right hander as Collina (4-3) went the distance in picking up the win.
Offensively, all nine Lehigh hits in game one were singles, and the Mountain Hawks stranded seven runners on base.
In the second game, a nine-inning affair, the Mountain Hawks struck first with a solo home run to right by third baseman Matt Geiger – his first long-ball of the season. After the Bison tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, Lehigh re-took the lead in the third when Nick Bet singled home Joe Ercolano to make the score 2-1.
The Mountain Hawks never trailed from that point on. Lehigh ripped eleven hits in the nightcap, and the Mountain Hawks took advantage of five Bison miscues en route to the win.
On the mound, senior lefty Jed Davitt pitched seven innings to earn the win. Davitt (2-2) struck out five and did not walk a batter.
Right fielder Nick Bet led the Lehigh offense in game two with a pair of hits and three runs batted in.
Lehigh and Bucknell will renew acquaintances with another doubleheader from Depew Field in Lewisburg on Sunday. First pitch of game one is set for Noon EDT, with sophomore Joe Matteo scheduled to get the start on the hill for LU.
