The Bison opened the second half with three straight scores to pull in front 6-4 with 14:19 remaining in the game, but Lehigh battled back. But Amanda Paraud tied the game at seven with a goal of her own and it appeared as though the game may go to overtime. Chamberlain would not have it though, as she slipped her third goal of the game pas the Bucknell goal keeper on a free position shot and the Mountain Hawks were up 8-7. Starsoneck then scored her second goal of the contest as time expired and Lehigh celebrated with a 9-7 victory.
Starsoneck finished with two goals and two assists on the day, while Cominsky scored one goal and dished out one assist. Freshman Brittany Besler stopped seven Bison shots for the game, while Bucknell goal keeper Lizzy McDaniel was outstanding in net for the Bison stopping 12 shots. The Mountain Hawks scooped up 36 ground balls on the afternoon and unleashed 26 shots, while wining 12 draw controls.
Head Coach Liz Ota was excited to pick up the crucial win on Saturday afternoon. “We called that time out after they (Bucknell) tied the game, and we drew up an isolation play for Amy (Chamberlain), and she was successful. Then we went to the draw control and called a second time out to set up our stall situation. Obviously we have not been in the stall situation that much this season, that was actually the first time we used it, but it did its job.”
Ota continued, “I’m very proud of this group, there are a young team and they played so well today. They were so intense and so focused coming into the game today, I’m just very proud of the entire team.”
Lehigh returns to action on Tuesday evening when the Mountain Hawks host Columbia on Senior Night at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Game time is set for 7:00.
