Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh won its second consecutive game on Tuesday night as the Mountain Hawks outlasted Columbia by a 13-10 score at the Ulrich Sports Complex on senior night.  The victory improves Lehigh’s record to 6-9 on the season, while the setback drops Columbia’s record to 5-8 in 2005.

“This win was special for our seniors,” said first year Lehigh head coach Liz Ota.  “Although we were not as sharp as we would have liked to be, we got the result in the end.”

Lehigh senior captain Barrie Cominsky got the scoring started, as the Florida native took advantage of a free position shot to give the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 lead just 2:20 into the contest.  After the Lions tied the game, it was Cominsky again off a feed from Vienna Pharaon at 5:49 to make the score 2-1.  In all, Cominsky scored four times in the victory, while assisting on another score.

Although Lehigh’s four seniors were the ones honored before the start of the game, it was an underclassman that stole the show.  Sophomore Amy Chamberlain scored five times and registered two assists in the win.  Chamberlain leads the Mountain Hawks with 41 goals on the season.

“Amy gave us a spectacular effort,” Ota pointed out following the win.  “She showed us tonight and has shown us all season long that she execute under a lot of pressure.”

In all, Lehigh out-shot the Lions 33-18 on the night.  The Mountain Hawks registered 20 ground balls to nine for Columbia.

The Lions were led offensively by Carrie Anderer, who scored the three times.  Lehigh goalkeeper Brittany Besler recorded seven saves on the night.

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday, when the Mountain Hawks visit Lafayette.  The Brown and White will also keep an eye on the Bucknell-American game, because if the Bison should lose that contest, the Mountain Hawks will head to the Patriot League Tournament.
