Easton, PA – Lehigh closed out its regular season in stylish fashion, defeating archrival Lafayette 17-7 on Saturday afternoon, the Mountain Hawks third straight victory.  With the win, the Brown and White closes out its 2005 regular season with a record of 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the Patriot League, while the Leopards fall to 1-13 overall and 0-6 in league action.  Coupled with Bucknell’s loss at American, the Mountain Hawks will now move onto the 2005 Patriot League Tournament, which begins on April 30, in Hamilton, New York on the campus of Colgate University.  Lehigh will enter the tournament as the number four seed and will take on the top-seeded Colgate Raiders.

Barrie Cominsky opened the scoring for Lehigh on a free position shot at the 27:37 mark, and Amy Chamberlain followed that up with a score of her own with 1:37 later and the Brown and White was in front 2-0.  Lafayette cut the lead in half on a Samantha Ziegler goal at the 25:51 mark, but the Mountain Hawks then took the game over, scoring eight goals in a span of 14:25 to go in front 10-1, which is how the score would remain heading into halftime.

During the eight goal outburst, Cominsky found the back of the net three times, and Chamberlain, Sarah Starsoneck, Christy Smith, Lissy King and Kara Chalanick all netted one score each to put the Mountain Hawks comfortably in front.

Valerie Simone began the second half with her second goal of the season and but Chamberlain answered with her third score of the contest to put Lehigh in front 11-2.  Madalyn Booth then made the score 11-3, but the Mountain Hawks went on another scoring spree, as Chamberlain twice and King added back-to-back goals to push the lead up to 15-3 with 14:47 remaining.

Kaleigh Mountain gave the Leopards their fourth goal of the contest with 11:12 to go and Ashley Dvorak gave them their fifth with 9:57 left.  But Amanda Segal and Chamberlain scored back-to-back goals to up the lead to 17-3 and Lehigh was on its way.  Lafayette would add two more scores late in the game, but it did not matter as the Mountain Hawks were on their way to victory number seven.

Lehigh out shot its archrival 34-17 and scooped up 36 ground balls for the game, compared to 27 for the Leopards.  Chamberlain added two assists to go with her six goals, while Cominsky finished with four scores and King added three.  In goal for the Brown and White, Brittany Besler got the start and sent back five shots, before giving way to Kyle Begina, who finished the game in goal for the Mountain Hawks.

The time of Lehigh’s first round tournament game will be 12:00 pm, on April 30 and the opponent will be Colgate on the Raiders campus in Hamilton, New York.
