Mountain Hawks split with Lafayette on track

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh went up against archrival Lafayette on Saturday afternoon and it was the Mountain Hawk women coming away with a 99-82 victory, while the men fell to the Leopards 93-88 at Rauch Fieldhouse.  Nicole Montegary, K.T.Hessler, Vaclav Malek and a host of other Mountain Hawks turned in solid performances on the afternoon, as the women defeated their archrivals for the second straight year and the men fell to Lafayette for the fourth straight year on the indoor track.

 

For the women, Montegary won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.4 and she also took first in the 200-meter dash as she raced to a time of 26.4 seconds.  Hessler won the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:21.2 and Jen Schappert took a pair of races, the one-mile run and the 3000-meters.  Senior Khayla Lowe won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.0 seconds, while Lauren Edwards won the high jump, leaping 1.60-meters in the finals and Lindsay Hinsch took both the long jump (5.45-meters) and the triple jump (11.23-meters).

 

For the men, David Falk raced his way to a first place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.80 seconds, and Waleed Amer took the crown in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.1 seconds.  Dave Merola (2:32.1) won the 1000-meter run, and Mark Swanson (8:48.80) and Victor Vientos (8:50.0) went one-two in the 3000-meter run.  The 4 x 400-meter relay team for Lehigh defeated the Leopards squad with a time of 3:36.9.  In the field events, Vaclav Malek won both the high jump (2.00-meters) and the pole vault (3.81-meters).

Lehigh returns to action next Friday when the Mountain Hawks host the Multi-Event at Rauch Fieldhouse beginning at 5:00.  Lehigh will then get right back at it the next day, hosting the Covert Classic on Saturday afternoon beginning at 12:00.
