Day one of league championships are done

West Point, NY – On a day when several meet records fell, Lehigh got off to a slow start at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships, and after one day, the men sit in fifth place with six points and the women are currently tied for fourth place with 14 points.  Army is the current leader in the men’s competition with 84 points, followed by Navy (39), Bucknell (28), American (20), Lehigh, Holy Cross (4), Lafayette (4) and Colgate in eighth place with one point.  On the women’s side, Bucknell sits atop the leader board with 69 points, and it is followed by Navy with 37 points, Army (28), Lafayette (14), Lehigh, Colgate (12), Holy Cross (6) and American (6).

 

The Mountain Hawks top finisher on day one of the event was junior Lindsay Hinsch who posted a second place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.80-meters in the finals.  Other female Mountain Hawks that earned points on the day were Nicole Montegary in the long jump, as she recorded a jump of 5.57-meters, good for one point, and sophomore Lauren Barrett with a toss of 38.22-meters in the javelin, which earned the Mountain Hawks two points.  Junior Andrea Luebbe took fifth place in the 10,000-meter run as she crossed the finish line in a time of 38:35.40, which got Lehigh two additional points.

 

On the men’s side, Jesse Ohm cleared 4.45-meters in the pole vault, which gave Lehigh one point in the event.  Senior Francis Vincent then posted a leap of 6.98-meters in the long jump, which gave the Mountain Hawks two points on the day.  Sophomore Vacalv Malek currently leads the decathlon with 3,509 points, and will look to stay on top in the final day.  Senior George Evans posted the fastest time in the 100-meter dash on day one, and he too will look to take the medal on the final day of the championships.

 

The action resumes on Saturday morning at nine o’clock and will run all day long with the last scheduled event set to begin at 6:15 pm.
