Lehigh drops second straight game

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh dropped its second straight contest on Saturday afternoon, a 14-10 decision to Patriot League foe Holy Cross at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Barrie Cominsky did score three goals for the Mountain Hawks in the defeat, but Holy Cross’s Trish Sutton notched five goals on the afternoon and in the end that was the difference. With the loss, Lehigh falls to 3-6 on the season, and 0-3 in Patriot League play, while the Crusaders go to 5-6 and 2-2 in league play.
Holy Cross came out and jumped all over the Mountain Hawks, scoring three goals in the first five minutes of action. But Cominsky got Lehigh on the board with the first of her goals at the 24:25 mark of the first half off an assist from Kellan Van Hoesen and the Mountain Hawks were within two. After the Crusaders scored once again, Ella and Emily Studdiford went to work, scoring two consecutive goals, within one minute of one another, and the Brown and White was within one goal at 4-3.
The Crusaders then added two more goals, one by Sutton and the lead again swelled to three, this time at 7-3. Emily Studdiford and Cominsky would keep the Mountain Hawks close however, scoring one goal each in the final eight minutes of action in the first half and at halftime the score was 7-5 with Holy Cross in the lead.
The two teams exchanged four goals in the early going of the second half, with Amy Chamberlain and Van Hoesen both finding the back of the net for Lehigh, to put the score at 9-7 with 24:21 remaining. However, Holy Cross scored three straight times, and it looked as though the Mountain Hawks were done. But as they have done all season, they fought back and made it a close game once again, as Elaine King and Sarah Starsoneck both scored within 47 seconds of one another and the score now stood at 12-9 with
Holy Cross then scored two straight and the game was in hand. Cominsky added her third score of the contest late, but by that point the outcome had been decided. Meredith Carso notched a trio of assists on the afternoon for Lehigh, while Van Hoesen added two. Kyle Begina was in goal for the Mountain Hawks and she recorded nine saves on the afternoon.
