Drexel upends Lehigh 11-7

Philadelphia, PA - Senior Sarah Starsoneck scored three goals and fellow senior Emily Studdiford added two, but it wasn't enough as Lehigh fell to Drexel on Thursday afternoon 11-7. Lehigh pulled within 7-6 in the second half, but Drexel found the back of the net four more times to seal the victory. With the loss, the Mountain Hawks fall to 1-2 on the season, while the Dragons improve to 1-0.
Junior Barrie Cominksy and freshman Amy Chamberlain were the only other Mountain Hawks to score, with Comminsky finding the back of the net at the 26:30 mark of the second half and Chamberlain knocking one in just minutes before that at the 29:38 mark. Lehigh was led in assists by senior Meredith Carso with two on the afternoon.
Drexel took the early lead on one of Laurie Bean's three scores at the 24:31 mark of the opening stanza. However, Lehigh stormed right back, scoring the contest's next three goals, two of which were from Starsoneck. The Dragons then found their offensive rhtymn, scoring six consecutive times, to take a 7-3 lead, which is where it stood at halftime.
The Mountain Hawks came out red hot in the second half, scoring three straight times, to trim the lead to 7-6 on Cominsky's goal. But as they had done all day, the Dragons responded, this time with four of the game's next five goals.
Senior Rebecca Morley picked up two ground balls on the afternoon, as did Ashley Manion. In goal for the Mountain Hawks was Kyle Begina, who turned back 11 shots on the afternoon. Lehigh returns to action on Tuesday, March 9th, as the Mountain Hawks travel to California for spring break. Up first, will be the University of California-Davis. That game is scheduled for 3:00.
